Here are some tips for packing cartons and preparing for your move:

  1. Prepare a "Survival Kit" (Carton #1) that includes essentials like a kettle, cups, coffee, cleaners, etc. Keep bed legs, remote controls, wardrobe keys, and toilet paper in the same box for easy access.

  2. Place all personal papers, bank/cheque books, etc., in a folder and carry them with you in your car or suitcase.

  3. When packing cartons, start with a layer of crumpled paper at the bottom. Wrap each item individually, and for plates, stand them on their edges. Place heavier items at the bottom, gradually working your way up to lighter items, using plenty of crumpled paper between each layer. For example, place the dinner set at the bottom and Tupperware on top.

  4. Ensure all cartons are packed tightly and use a layer of crumpled paper on top to prevent crushing. Securely tape each carton closed.

  5. Use smaller "Book Cartons" for packing books, wine, and heavy items to prevent overloading. Remember, removalists are only human.

  6. Clearly mark each carton on the top with your name and the room where it should be placed upon arrival. This will save time for the removalist and make unpacking easier for you.

  7. Pack items in standard and book cartons rather than tiny supermarket cartons or oversized ones. This will save time and effort and ensure that the cartons are sturdy enough to prevent collapsing and potentially damaging the contents.

  8. Avoid packing anything in garbage bags or striped plastic bags, as they can split and lead to your belongings being trampled or lost.

  9. Empty all drawers, filing cabinets, and cupboards to prevent damage to runners. Pack the contents into appropriate cartons.

  10. Use portable wardrobes to transport hanging clothes, as it makes transportation easier and reduces unpacking and ironing time. We offer portable wardrobes for hire on all moves.

  11. Some items may require proper preparation before loading them onto the moving vehicle. Arrange for disconnection of appliances and enlist the help of qualified tradesmen such as plumbers, electricians, or sound/computer technicians as needed.

  12. If you have self-assemble furniture, a garden shed, beds, or a wall-mounted dryer, dismantle them before the move. Clean garden tools and bundle them together with tape.

  13. Consume the contents of your freezer and clean it at least a day prior to the move. Give away frozen foods and any other perishables you cannot take with you.
